What you need to know for this guide to make sense

This guide assumes that you have a basic familiarity of using WordPress as an administrator (meaning that you are comfortable with tasks like adding users and installing plugins). Not quite up to speed? Check out this great and free beginner’s course from the WordPress mothership.

Requirements

The Graphic Data platform consists of a WordPress plugin and theme that are designed to work together. Graphic Data has been tested on WordPress version 6.8.2. It is designed to work on a fresh WordPress installation. The platform has one dependency, the plugin SVG Support, which you will be prompted to install when you install the Graphic Data plugin.

Installation, Step by Step

  1. Spin up a fresh installation of WordPress (version 6.8.2 or later) with no plugins running.
    • If you don’t know how to do this, here’s a tutorial on WordPress installation.
    • If you are just checking Graphic Data out, you probably want to first fiddle around with it on your local computer (meaning that you should install WordPress locally). In case you don’t know how to do that, here are instructions.
  2. Download the zipped version of the Graphic Data plugin from our GitHub repository. As of this writing, the Graphic Data plugin and theme are not yet available via the wordpress.org plugin/theme directory (we’re working on it!).
  3. Install the plugin by uploading it via the WordPress Admin (here’s how to do that). Activate the Graphic Data plugin.
    • You will be prompted to install the SVG Support plugin.
    • Upon activation, you will see a warning message that the Graphic Data theme isn’t running. Don’t worry about it - we’re about to fix that problem.
  4. Download the zipped version of the Graphic Data theme from our GitHub repository.
  5. Install the theme by uploading it via the WordPress Admin (here’s how to do that). Activate the Graphic Data theme.
  6. Kick back and relax with the beverage of your choice, because you are done. Nice job!
    • Well, maybe you are done. If there are other plugins that you need for your particular use case, go ahead and install them now.
